A new web site, a new web site host, and other new stuff. It's all new!
Well I decided to get rid of my previous web host (Ipower) and go with a new provider (Hawk Host). I might write about my experiences with both providers at some point. Should be exciting for all concerned :P
I have also decided to maintain this site a little better than I have done recently. I'll be writing a lot more and putting up new content pretty regularly. To help accomplish this I designed this site (in part) using Joomla. I really want to write something about all the great free software there is out there today. I'll leave that for another day though.
I hope you enjoy your visit at geekyfreq. I hope you stick around long enough to see this site grow.

I thought I'd share with you a picture I took a few months ago at Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International airport (KFLL). To be honest I have been there quite a lot in the past and have never seen this before now. It took me by surprise! NASA Northrop T-38N Talon The sound it made was quite amazing - let alone the speed at which it took off. It hugged the ground until almost the end of the runway then took off almost vertically and within a couple of seconds it was in the clouds and gone. This kind of aircraft is used by NASA astronauts and also as a 'chase plane' for the shuttle.

Everyone loves free software, right? Well luckily for us there is an abundance of rather good free software these days. I'm not just talking about little applications here - I'm talking about pretty extensive software. Open source software has always been pretty popular, but these days it has taken on a much more professional appearance. Also, apart from the 'base' software package, it is pretty common a whole community has builds up around the original software. Some very talented people constantly update software and write some pretty cool little plug-ins, applications or extensions for that particular package. I decided to write an article on some of this free stuff. After all, I use it and enjoy it, so why shouldn't you? |
